María Manuela was born in Nicaragua, but currently lives in Lubbock, Texas, with her family. For the past 14 years, she has been dedicated to accompanying and facilitating advocacy processes led by Indigenous Women in international spaces.

She has participated in the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, the Women’s Legal and Social Commission, the CEDAW and various other spaces for dialogue between movements. In addition, she has coordinated social projects and community organization.

She studied business administration and has a master’s degree in project management. However, part of her heart is with sociology. For this reason, she also specialized in development cooperation and the rights of Indigenous Peoples, as well as feminist research.
Among many activities, María Manuela is passionate about the collective construction of knowledge and teamwork. She believes in the energy that comes from collaboration. She also reserves moments of intimacy to enjoy with family and for self-discovery.
