Beijing + 25 Review Process of 2020

This project mainly consisted of conducting a preliminary national review of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA) + 25, looking back upon the 25 years since this women’s empowerment initiative was first launched. 

The platform’s 12 critical areas were studied in light of the Nepalese context, with a specific focus on the situation and condition of Indigenous Women. The research consisted of a literature review to assess secondary data combined with consultations with various stakeholders at the provincial level. Local government stakeholders participated in the consultations, as well as representatives of Indigenous Women’s organizations from seven districts of two provinces. 

The main objectives of the review were: to measure the progress of the implementation of the BPfA, to identify key barriers, and to propose solutions to those barriers. Once the investigation was complete, the organization prepared a parallel report to the Nepalese government’s submission to the BPfA+25 review, as a way to hold the government accountable for considering indigenous needs and rights.
