Lucy is a Masai woman from Kenya. Some 20 years ago, she began her activism journey as a television journalist, working on issues related to development and the environment. 

She co-founded the Indigenous Women’s Biodiversity Network together with Florina López, from Panama. For the past few years, she has also coordinated the African Region as a member of the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity, under the Convention on Biological Diversity. She is currently the President of the African Indigenous Women’s Organization in the East Africa region, Executive Director of the Indigenous Information Network, and our Vice President. 

In recognition of her work with Indigenous Peoples, she was awarded the Environmental Leadership Award, the Certificate of Merit for Advancing the Rights of Shepherding Women in Kenya, and EVE Magazine’s “Woman of the Year” Award, among others.
