INDIGENOUS WOMEN AND YOUTH GLOBAL SUMMIT: POLITICAL DECLARATION
The Political Declaration of the Global Summit of Indigenous Women and Youth—adopted on 13 November 2025 in Belém do Pará, during COP30—reflects our collective voice in the face of the escalating climate crisis and the structural inequalities that disproportionately impact Indigenous Peoples.
In the Declaration, we affirm that the climate crisis is a crisis of rights, justice, and life, and that it can only be addressed by recognizing and respecting our territories, our systems of self-governance, and our ancestral knowledge.
The Declaration highlights the essential role of Indigenous Women and Youth as guardians of biodiversity, defenders of territories, and key political actors. Drawing from our territorial experiences, we call on States and the international community to take urgent action: full protection of Indigenous lands and waters, direct climate finance for Indigenous-led initiatives, effective participation in climate decision-making, implementation of international human rights standards, and protection mechanisms for Indigenous environmental defenders.
We also reaffirm our collective commitments: strengthening global coordination, defending our territories and cultures, promoting intergenerational leadership, and participating actively in the international climate agenda with proposals rooted in our worldviews.
This Declaration is a firm and urgent call: there will be no climate justice without justice for Indigenous Peoples, and no decision about the future of the planet should be made without us.
