Nuba People
Organization: South Kordofan Organization of Women for Peace and Development (SKOWPED)
Participant: Babil Haroun
Country: Sudan
This project worked to improve the self-esteem of Nuba women and girls in Sudan, and to empower them within their communities. Its objectives were to strengthen girls’ education, support women’s self-esteem, and raise awareness about the international laws that protect the rights of women and children.
Over a week-long workshop, the participants were trained in leadership skills, received information on laws and policies, and received on-the-job training in accounting and other skills as a way to promote micro-entrepreneurship. A total of 31 women were trained, including several girls as young as 13, as well as three women with disabilities.
