Wewene Zhechkewe

In the United States, this project was an effort to bring Shawnee Indigenous Women together to empower, uplift, and encourage one another. Its objective was to revitalize the traditional values of reciprocity, complementarity, respect for diversity and participation. 

The project included biweekly meetings, presentations on topics to be addressed in the respective communities, resource sharing, and craft tutorials. The activities encouraged women to advocate for themselves, their families, and their communities. The program also addressed areas of historical trauma, suicide prevention, domestic violence and self-defence, and health and wellness.
