She is a Masai woman who began her activism as a television journalist on issues related to the environment and development. She is co-founder of the Biodiversity Network of Indigenous Women with Florina López from Panama. In recent years, she has also coordinated the African Region as a member of the International Forum on Biodiversity, under the Convention on Biological Diversity. In recognition of her work with indigenous peoples, she was awarded the Environmental Leadership Award, the Certificate of Merit for the Advancement of the Rights of Women for work with pastoral communities in Kenya, and the EVE Magazine ‘Woman of the Year’ Award, among others. She is currently President of the Organization of African Indigenous Women in the East Africa region, Executive Director of the Indigenous Information Network and our Vice President.
